Shaoxing University is a normal full-time comprehensive institution of higher learning approved by the Ministry of Education. Its history can be traced back to 1909. With four campuses – Fengzejiang, Nanshan, Lanting and Shangyu ­– the university covers 99 hectares and has floor area of 625,500 square meters for school buildings.

Shaoxing University has 16 secondary schools, an independent college, Yuanpei College, and an affiliated hospital. It recruits students from 26 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across China, and currently has nearly 15,000 full-time students. There are 1,577 staff members, including 1,033 full-time teachers, 466 of whom have senior titles and 397 have doctoral degrees.

The university currently has 62 undergraduate programs, covering nine disciplines, including three national characteristic programs, 10 provincial key constructed programs, four provincial characteristic programs constructed during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020), two provincial key experimental teaching demonstration centers constructed during the 13th Five-Year Plan, as well as eight provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers. In addition, the Lanting calligraphy and art college is the first calligraphy education base for overseas university students in Zhejiang province.

Adhering to carrying out multichannel cultivation of international talents, Shaoxing University has successively established cooperation with more than 60 universities and institutions from 21 countries and regions including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Russia and Japan. Students from over 40 countries and regions do undergraduate and postgraduate courses on Chinese language and culture at Shaoxing University.
