The 2024 Real Leather. Stay Different. Taiwan Award ceremony celebrates green trends through leather design
The winners of the Real Leather. Stay Different. Taiwan Region Student Design Competition were announced at an awards ceremony and runway show at HANASPACE in Taipei.
After passionate debates among jury members, Hsu Yu from Shih Chien University Department of Fashion Design was selected as Overall Winner whos design was recently displayed at the International Award Ceremony at the US Embassy, London. The designer will also have a complimentary stay at The Place Taipei.
The contest attracted over 200 entries in Taiwan across three categories:
- Apparel
- Accessories
- Footwear
Many entries were inspired by how the pandemic impacted the world with designers showing sensitivity to societal and environmental changes. These entries also indicated that students were getting familiar with using leather, with impressive ideas for footwear, lifestyle, and accessories. This glamorous runway not only underlined abundant creativity from emerging designers, but also exhibited how designers attempted to be kind to the world in their practices.
The Taiwanese International Leather Association provided free materials to students.
