George Njoroge
Kenyatta University
My name is George Wamwere Njoroge, and I am a dedicated creative currently in my third year of study at Kenyatta University, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Art and Design. My academic journey has been defined by a deep exploration of visual communication, where I major in Animation and balance my technical expertise with minor units in Multimedia Studies and Fabric Design. This multidisciplinary background has provided me with a unique lens through which I view art—one that bridges the gap between the fluid, digital world of motion and the tangible, structured world of physical materials. My entry into the world of Leatherwork began as a specialized unit within my Multimedia studies. While I initially approached the medium from a purely academic perspective, it quickly ignited a profound creative urge to master the craft. I found that the principles I use in animation—layering, structural integrity, and aesthetic flow—translated beautifully into leatherwork. The tactile nature of the material, combined with the discipline required for precise cutting, stitching, and finishing, offers a satisfying challenge that complements my digital design skills. Through this competition, I aim to push the boundaries of my current capabilities. I am not merely participating to showcase my current progress, but to use this platform as a catalyst for professional advancement. My goal is to synthesize my knowledge of fabric patterns and multimedia aesthetics to create leather pieces that are both innovative and functionally sound. As a student artist, I am committed to continuous learning and believe that this competition is the ideal environment to refine my technique, exchange ideas with fellow artisans, and establish my voice within the leatherwork community. I look forward to demonstrating how a background in fine art and animation can bring a fresh, modern perspective to this timeless trade.
