Hidden soul

Inspired by Keith Lam’s The New Canvas performance, this project explores the transformation of form — where the surface is no longer static, and true essence is revealed only through interaction. In Lam’s work, the canvas is reimagined: not as a flat or passive surface, but as a dynamic, living environment shaped by light, movement, and data. Inside a seemingly empty white dome, nothing is immediately visible. But once the performance begins, the space transforms — light pulses, shadows shift, the environment begins to breathe. What was once hidden comes alive. This moment of emergence feels deeply human — like something waiting quietly to be discovered. This experience sparked a natural metaphor: the geode — a rough, unassuming stone that holds a crystalline world within. On the outside, it appears solid and closed. But once cracked open, its interior reveals unexpected layers of brilliance and complexity. Like Lam’s canvas, the geode embodies the duality between restraint and revelation. This tension — between outer simplicity and inner depth — became the foundation of Hidden Soul. Hidden Soul is a sculptural garment that transforms with intention. At first glance, it is a sharply tailored blazer — architectural, composed, and precise. But with a single gesture — a shift in structure, a zip at the side — it unfolds into a voluminous balloon dress. The inner lining is soft and iridescent, echoing the layered hollowness and shimmering textures of a geode’s core. This project invites the wearer to experience fashion as transformation — a journey from surface to soul.
