Ciao Min Ciou

Tainan University of Technology

I am a student in the field of fashion design, focusing on the integration of leather craftsmanship and creative design. I specialize in transforming inspirations drawn from everyday observations and cultural elements into works that balance experimentation and functionality. Throughout my creative process, I emphasize material properties and structural logic, exploring the diverse possibilities of leather in both form and function through hands-on making and iterative prototyping. My design style combines contemporary fashion with personal narrative, highlighting refined details and strong visual impact while introducing innovative perspectives into traditional craftsmanship. By participating in this leather design competition, I aim to demonstrate my understanding and creative application of materials, while challenging myself to further develop my abilities in form transformation and conceptual expression, ultimately creating works that are both aesthetically compelling and meaningful.

Outlaw Form

Category: Accessories

Competitions: Taiwan Region

This piece draws inspiration from the classic cowboy hat, transforming it through structural reinterpretation and functional reconfiguration into a bag design. It embodies the concept of inversion between form and purpose. The overall silhouette retains the iconic brim and sculpted crown, combined with a bucket-shaped body, creating a sense of displacement and visual intrigue between what is seen and how it is used. In terms of materials, the design features a contrast between black and high-saturation orange leather, symbolizing the tension between restraint and intensity. Metal chains and studded details are incorporated to introduce elements of punk culture, reinforcing a bold and rebellious aesthetic. The work not only responds to contemporary fashion’s focus on hybridity and cross-disciplinary design, but also explores the fluid relationship between object identity, function, and aesthetics—presenting a design language that exists between utility and artistic expression.
