Threads of Resilience

This project is a leather competition design inspired by spiders and Javanese culture. I used the idea of spider webs to influence the structure of the top, especially in the sharp and extended shapes on the shoulders and sleeves. These elements represent strength, resilience, and protection, reflecting how a spider carefully builds its web. The design focuses on strong lines and a structured silhouette to express a bold and confident look. Leather is the main material used for the top because it can hold its shape well and create a sculptural effect. It gives the outfit a modern and powerful appearance, which is important for standing out in a competition. Working with leather also highlights craftsmanship, since it requires precision, technique, and careful construction to achieve the final design. The material choice supports the concept by enhancing the structured and slightly edgy feel of the piece. To balance the strong leather top, I added a Batik skirt to bring in a softer and more traditional element. The Batik patterns represent Javanese culture and add detail and richness to the overall look. This contrast between the structured leather and the flowing fabric creates harmony in the design. Overall, this project combines nature and culture into a modern outfit, showing both strength and elegance while blending traditional and contemporary fashion.
