MOLTING

“PETRIFIED” is a fashion collection exploring the relationship between the body, transformation, and permanence through sculptural fashion and material experimentation. Inspired by mythology and the emotional symbolism of protection and vulnerability, the collection examines the tension between softness and rigidity, transparency and structure. The submission, titled “Molting,” focuses specifically on the dialogue between leather craftsmanship and bodily transformation. The look combines a sculpted cattle-leather footwear construction with a translucent body layer that resembles a second skin. Through leather molding, corsetry-inspired internal structures, and material experimentation, the design transforms the body into an object that feels both protective and exposed. The sculptural leather structure serves as armor surrounding the body, while the translucent TPU layer creates the illusion of exposed skin beneath it. The contrast between the heavy leather and transparent materials reflects the tension between protection and fragility. The footwear structure was developed as an extension of the body rather than a separate accessory. Inspired by corsetry and organic growth, the internal construction system allows the leather to maintain a sculptural silhouette while adapting to movement. The project challenges disposability by focusing on durability, emotional longevity, and craftsmanship. Rather than treating fashion as temporary, the work approaches garments as tactile objects intended to create a lasting emotional connection with the wearer. Combining traditional leather techniques with contemporary technologies and experimental construction methods, the project presents a vision of future luxury rooted in individuality, materiality, and permanence.
