Hello, my name is Hsu Ting-Chi. I’m a sophomore from Shih Chien University in Taipei, Taiwan. My major is fashion design. This is the first time for me to participate in the leather competition, and also my first try at designing a pair of shoes. I am delighted to have the opportunity to apply for this competition.

Out of the Earth

The inspiration of this design came from my fear of earthquakes. After the terrible earthquake in Taiwan this April, I was terrified and started to have unrealistic thoughts such as “I want to get out of the earth, then earthquakes won’t bother me anymore.” Since feet are the most direct connection between us humans and the ground, I combined the space suit of astronauts with shoes, thinking that maybe I can float, just like astronauts in space. Imagine this pair of shoes can take me out of the earth, far away from earthquakes.
