Womenswear, Embroidery, Haute Couture

I’m a Ghanaian - British Designer from West London, a recent graduate from the MA Fashion Womenswear course at Central Saint Martins. EWUSIE, is the brand’s name and the message behind it, is a constant exploration of identity. Being Ghanaian, but born and raised in London, my work follows a journey of situating myself within the West while embracing my heritage. Leather is a key material in my work. I’ve been experimenting with the material since my BA and with every collection I aim to develop innovative textiles. For my recent collection, I explored laser cutting and etching in leather, creating a textile in reference to leather furniture pieces and objects known in West Africa. Kente cloth and ways of dress in Ghanaian culture, is where my ideas for shapes stem from. Garments consist of 3 meters of cloth that can be worn in multiple ways. The wearer having the choice in how to wear the garment, gives a sense of ease and effortlessness that I try to infuse in my designs. I like to use existing clothes while draping to re-contextualise a garment to a different part of the body yet still show the beauty in the existing details.
