Hi my name is Kim Ivan Delgra. I am a second year fashion design and merchandising student at Iloilo Science and Technology University, College of Industrial Technology, Fashion and Wellness Department. My school is in Iloilo City in the Philippines, a heritage and historical place in my country. I am 21 years old and it has been always my dream to discover my potentials to become a fashion designer– even just now to bring honor to my school in this competition. My design entry is entitled Vestido Terno, a name that is Italian and Spanish. My concept is to innovate sustainable leather with our own cultural identity , my own eco-interpretations and traditional artisanal techniques. I un-earthen our Filipino traditional attire and make them modern in my design. It is amazing to transform our cultural heritage for which our city is known for along side science and technology in garment construction which my school instills in us. As I transform the garment with textile manipulations I discover many things along the process, even just in my sketches and creating my mood board because I realize leather is such a beautiful material to work on. I am new to it but I am enamored with its character . My aspiration in this competition is to inspire young designers around the world to just look around us in creating our design while we embrace sustainable and slow fashion for good.
