My journey into fashion began through a personal search for identity and self-acceptance. Growing up as a Kenyan woman with darker skin, I experienced colourism throughout both my childhood and teenage years. For a long time, those experiences shaped how I viewed myself and left me disconnected from my identity. Everything changed when I turned 21 and intentionally started reconnecting with my Kikuyu roots. The more I learned about my culture, the more I began appreciating the strength, beauty, and individuality within myself. That journey transformed my confidence and changed how I expressed myself in both my personal and professional life. In 2024, I founded Alkebu Way to translate that transformation into fashion. Alkebu Way is a contemporary Kenyan luxury fashion house that explores the emotional journey of life through timeless design and craftsmanship. The brand creates statement pieces inspired by themes of struggle, growth, rebirth, and hope. Strategically, Alkebu Way is focused on building a globally relevant luxury brand from Kenya through refined leather craftsmanship, strong silhouettes, premium materials, and emotionally driven storytelling. The brand combines modern luxury with subtle cultural influence to create pieces that feel authentic, sophisticated, and enduring. Rather than following fast-moving trends, Alkebu Way focuses on seasonless design and long-term value. Every piece is created to evoke emotion, inspire confidence, and remind people of the power in embracing their individuality.
