Ling Tung University

As a student at Ling Tung University of Science and Technology in Taichung, I came here to learn more about leather and improve my skills. This was also partly because my professor said it was a midterm project, so I especially hoped to use this opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the characteristics and applications of leather materials. From basic knowledge to practical application, I aimed to gradually cultivate my mastery of materials, while also enhancing my design thinking and practical experience, making my work more complete and reflecting my personal style. In addition, I hoped to learn different techniques and tool usage during the production process, observe the changes in texture of leather after processing, and try to incorporate my personal creativity to develop my own design language, laying a more solid foundation for future creations. I will also continuously reflect on the production process to refine the quality and content of my work.

FOLD

Category: Accessories

Competitions: Taiwan Region

This design proposal aims to redefine desktop order in the digital age through "subtractive aesthetics." Addressing the dual needs of modern workers for a refined environment and neck support, the product's core employs a "one-piece molding" structure. Through precise leather folding and traditional double-needle saddle stitching, it provides stable and aesthetically pleasing support. In terms of material selection, this design insists on using top-grade vegetable-tanned cowhide with a thickness of 2.5–3.0mm. Its natural vegetable tanning process is not only environmentally friendly and biodegradable but also develops a unique "patina" over time, giving the object a lifespan that grows with age. Ergonomically, a precisely calculated 65° optimal viewing angle effectively reduces neck strain when browsing notifications or making video calls. The overall design language is minimalist, abandoning redundant decorations and brand logos, purely showcasing the resilience and warmth of leather through geometric lines. FOLD is not just a phone stand, but a work of art that blends traditional craftsmanship with modern technological living, injecting a touch of handcrafted warmth and tranquility into the fast-paced digital daily life.
