Vy Nguyễn Hoàng Phương

Vietnam

My name is Vy and I am studying Fashion Design in my second year at Ton Duc Thang University in Vietnam. Fashion has never been “a phase” for me. It’s something that I have loved since as long as I can remember. I was fortunate enough to grow up with parents and family that always supported me, even though we did not have a background in fashion or abundant resources. There was no roadmap on how to get into what I love, but their support allowed me to believe that I could continue pushing forward with what I love and take it seriously. As I grew, my love for creating evolved into a passion – something I know I want to pursue in the future. I believe fashion should be inspired by anything and everything in life. To me, design is about storytelling, capturing emotions, and bringing life to reality – however you may see beauty in everyday life, in your own unique way. Fashion allows us to express who we are and can take any moment and help you portray that into something artistic.

Learned – Em Học

“Learned – Em Học” is a backpack design inspired by the traditional gùi—a familiar object deeply rooted in the daily lives of ethnic communities in mountainous regions. More than a functional tool, the gùi represents resilience, endurance, and the strength to carry both physical and emotional burdens. This project reinterprets that cultural symbol into a modern backpack, designed specifically for children, especially those who face challenges in accessing education due to geographical and social limitations. By combining traditional form with contemporary materials and functionality, the design aims to create a durable, practical, and meaningful product. Beyond its physical purpose, the backpack carries a powerful message about educational equality—emphasizing that every child, regardless of their background, deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and pursue their dreams.
