I 'am currently pursuing my honors in textile design at Nelson Mandela University. My design interest is in sustainability and how emotional design can be used to prolong product lifespans through our emotional connections to them.

Wabi-Sabi

Category: Apparel

Competitions: International

This design is inspired by Wabi-Sabi the Japanese art of finding beauty within the imperfections. The design makes use of off-cut leather pieces patched together alongside the use of an cow hide. This design is then also inspired by the ancient art of Kintsugi , the art of mending the broken with gold. This is represented in the patching of the off cut leather pieces with gold thread, decorative topstitching and the use of gold zips.

Working with our partners at Arts Thread to develop lifelong learning and career opportunities for students of fashion and design. Our partnership provides the opportunity to compete on a world stage, participate in industry led workshops, set up an outstanding portfolio and gain access to the resources that will kickstart careers in fashion and design.
