This design project is inspired by the night-blooming cereus, a flower often associated with the phrase “a fleeting bloom.” Due to its extremely short flowering period, its beauty is rarely witnessed. Through this work, I aim to preserve this ephemeral moment by translating it into a lasting leather medium. The visual design combines hanging cereus flowers with butterflies as decorative elements. The butterflies symbolize people’s longing for and attachment to fleeting beauty, echoing the nature of the flower itself. The color palette is based on the natural yellow and white tones of the cereus, while the butterflies are tinted with the same yellow to create visual harmony. The patterns are presented using silkscreen printing. A muted blue-gray leather is chosen as the background to represent the night, the moment when the cereus blooms. The composition adopts a mirrored arrangement, suggesting the coexistence of blooming and withering, and emphasizing the transient nature of the flower. The product series includes a book cover and a tablet sleeve. Both are designed around the idea of “preservation.” The book cover relates to recording through writing and reading, while the tablet sleeve reflects contemporary habits, where digital devices are increasingly used for note-taking and drawing. Together, they represent different ways of capturing and keeping meaningful moments.

TThis project is a leather design inspired by the night-blooming cereus, a flower often associated with the phrase “a fleeting bloom.” Due to its extremely short blooming period, witnessing its beauty is rare. Through this design, the intention is to preserve this ephemeral moment by capturing it within a lasting leather medium. The visual design combines hanging cereus flowers with butterflies as decorative elements. The butterfly symbolizes people’s longing for and attachment to fleeting beauty, reflecting the emotional connection to transient moments. The color palette is based on the natural yellow and white tones of the cereus, while the butterflies are tinted with the same yellow to create visual harmony. The patterns are executed using silkscreen printing. A muted blue-gray leather is selected as the background to represent the night, the moment when the cereus blooms. The composition adopts a mirrored arrangement, suggesting the duality between blooming and withering—capturing both the possibility of witnessing its full beauty and the chance of missing it entirely. The product series includes a book cover, bookmarks, and a tablet sleeve, all centered around the concept of “preservation.” The book cover and bookmarks relate to reading and recording, enhancing the sense of keeping meaningful memories. The tablet sleeve responds to contemporary habits, as digital devices are increasingly used for note-taking and drawing. Together, these objects represent different ways of capturing and preserving moments in both physical and digital forms.
