Heroine Inspired Cropped Jacket

The jacket I designed was heavily inspired by the album Heroine by the Australian metal band, Thornhill. The album delves into the negative aspects of relationships and references the instability born out of distrust and loss of love between two people. I translated the themes surrounding toxic relationships by implementing patchwork into my design. I wanted to reference the idea of how sometimes a relationship that has been mended can never truly be the same as a relationship that was once ‘whole’ by using visible seams in my design and pieces of various types of leather throughout these patches, emphasizing that what has been ‘fixed’ will always be visible. This idea also lends itself well to a sustainable design as the small pieces that are needed to complete the lower half of the sleeves and jacket body can be made with leather offcuts that would normally be considered scrap or simply not big enough for full pattern pieces of another design. The different colours of leather was a purposeful choice in my design as it can mix and match scraps of leather that would otherwise be waste as my jacket doesn’t need to utilize all the same type and dye of leather for the bottom half of the garment.
