kENYATTA UNIVERSITY

Eliud ONDIEKI is a fine art student at Kenyatta university, focusing on multimedia crafts designs, fabric design and animation, driven by a bold vision: to reimagine African artistry through contemporary design and storytelling. At the heart of his work is a deep focus on leather , not just as a material, but as a cultural medium rich with texture, symbolism, and timeless beauty. Operating under his creative studio, Beyond craftworks, Eliud develops high-impact leather installations and handcrafted pieces that transform interior spaces, apparels and accessories. His designs include wall hangings, apparels and accessories inspired by organic African forms, and surface treatments that merge tradition with modern aesthetics. Guided by the ideals of Research, Learning, and Skills Development , Eliud brings a thoughtful and experimental approach to every project often fusing leatherwork with fabric design and telling stories through animation, motion graphics, and spatial design. His work stands at the intersection of craft and innovation, offering a unique perspective on African material culture, identity, and expression.

This rewoven Heritage project is a culturally inspired accessory project that consists of four major components: a satchel, wall hangings, necklaces, and earrings. Each item is designed as a wearable or decorative narrative, deeply rooted in African heritage and reimagined through sustainable, contemporary design practices. The project creatively integrates symbols from traditional African life such as shield patterns, plant vines, and earth tones into functional, stylish objects. This project aims to bridge the rich heritage of African tradition with the demands of contemporary design by merging ancestral wisdom with sustainable, modern practices. By reclaiming discarded materials and breathing new life into them through upcycling, the project revives forgotten stories while promoting eco-conscious creativity. In doing so, it challenges fast fashion and mass production, offering instead a thoughtful alternative that honors beauty, identity, and responsibility.
