Linh Mai

Vietnam

Hello! My name is Mai Ngoc Phuong Linh, a 20-year-old from Hanoi City, currently pursuing my studies in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. My work revolves around the exploration of gender, the human body, and the spiritual realm, with a focus on challenging societal norms and celebrating the fluidity of existence. I am dedicated to sustainability, advocating for fashion that is both creative and expressive, intrinsically linked to the manifestation of one’s inner self, while remaining responsible and mindful of its environmental impact. This conviction inspires my exploration of diverse materials and techniques as I integrate sustainable practices into my work. My objective is to create visually compelling fashion that deepens our understanding of our interconnectedness with the world. Although I do not possess formal experience and am primarily self-taught, I view the REAL LEATHER, STAY DIFFERENT competition as an exceptional opportunity to showcase my skills and connect with like-minded individuals and professionals on a global scale.

In weddings, the image of a bride wearing gloves and holding a bouquet has long been associated with elegance, refinement, and symbolic meaning. The glove represents formality, protection, and preservation, while the bridal bouquet embodies love, joy, and new beginnings. Based on these traditional values, this design reinterprets and elevates a familiar image through a contemporary approach, while also evoking the idea of the “wedding season” — a time when love blossoms and meaningful unions begin. Crafted entirely from leather, both the glove and the bouquet convey a message of durability and longevity. The leather bouquet symbolizes a love that remains strong through the passage of time and its changes. The concept of the “wedding season” is subtly woven into the design, not merely as a specific moment, but as a cycle of love — one that returns, grows, and endures. The image of a gloved hand gently holding the bouquet expresses care and the desire to preserve moments that may seem fleeting, yet are deeply meaningful. Furthermore, the design reflects the bride’s individuality — someone who values sustainability and the preservation of memories. Overall, the piece goes beyond aesthetics, becoming a symbol of love, protection, and lasting commitment, much like the essence of the “wedding season” — both an ending and the beginning of a new journey
