My leather project ׳Herd Movement׳ began with an observation of herds in nature - the way a large group of bodies moves together as one living unit, while each individual still carries its own direction, rhythm, and presence. I was drawn to the tension between collective and individual movement, between instinct and structure, and between the softness of flow and the strength of unity. Through this research, I explored how natural movement can be translated into a design language. I became interested in rhythm, repetition, continuity, and the traces created by bodies in motion. I was also inspired by works that examine movement, line, and spatial tension, such as Accumulation of Motion, the dynamic constructions of Naum Gabo, and Caprice Pierucci’s dynamic wooden sculptures. As part of this leather project, I chose to explore the dynamic and flexible qualities of the material, using leather as a way to sculpt natural, movement-based forms around the body. The leather is strong yet flexible, protective yet sensitive, structured yet alive. I wanted to use leather not only as a surface, but as a material that can shape movement, emotion, and form around the body. Its natural qualities allowed me to explore the relationship between the individual body and the collective rhythm surrounding it. The design is characterized by soft, flowing lines that create a sense of continuity throughout the garment, allowing the leather to naturally shape and follow the body. I chose to focus on leather as a luxurious, high-quality material with many valuable qualities such as strength, flexibility, durability, and the ability to hold both structure and movement. Through this project, I wanted to explore these qualities and use them to create a garment that feels sculptural, refined, and alive.
