THE HYPOCRITE

This collection represents my reflection on social behavioural norms in the context of Chinese culture. The work expresses the two sides of the hypocrite through the wearable body screen. The work breaks through the boundaries of the body shape using craftsmanship and materials, capturing these three gestures of a handshake, a fist and palm salute, and bowing as a fashionable and wearable sculptural accessories. The fabrication techniques used are leather wet-moulding for the creation of sculptural shapes and weaving leather and bamboo. The challenge focuses on how the leather transforms from being mould- ed and stitched over the form of human hands and shifts seamlessly into an open weave with bamboo tips. Coming from a third generation of a family business in bamboo craft has allowed me to merge my family legacy of craft with my interest in luxury leather goods, and bring my Eastern cultural back- ground to the fashion world.
