Benz Galvez

University of the East

I’m Benz Theoluie J. Galvez, a 22-year-old Fine Arts student majoring in Visual Communication at the University of the East. My creative journey is rooted in curiosity — I find inspiration in exploring different forms of art and discovering how far I can push both my skills and imagination. My interests range from digital painting and illustration to graphic design, and I enjoy the process of learning new techniques, experimenting with style, and telling stories through visuals. I’ve always believed that art doesn’t need to stay within a single box. I treat every piece I create as an opportunity to challenge what I know and reach for something new — whether that means working on passion projects, collaborating with others, or trying mediums outside my comfort zone. What I value most is the expressive power of visuals — how a single image can evoke emotion, deliver a message, or shift perspective. I aim to create art that not only looks good but also feels intentional and honest. As a student-artist, I know I’m still growing, but that’s what keeps me motivated. I don’t believe in staying static; I’d rather evolve with every sketch, every canvas, every screen. My goal is to keep exploring, learning, and finding my voice in the ever-expanding world of visual communication — wherever that may take me.

Half-skirt Belt

Category: Accessories

Competitions: International

This design concept centers around a bold and innovative half-skirt belt, merging the functionality of an accessory with the presence of a statement garment. Worn around the waist, the piece consists of cattle leather, stainless steel hardware, and wooden beads, combining rugged materials with delicate detailing. The garment sits asymmetrically, with a cascading layered half-skirt that drapes over one hip, adding movement, texture, and a sense of crafted elegance. More than just a functional belt or decorative skirt, this design is a two-in-one hybrid—a wearable embodiment of duality and self-expression. It challenges traditional fashion categories by blurring the lines between clothing and accessory, utility and ornamentation. This fusion speaks directly to the designer’s identity, inspired by a personal love for layering and accessorizing. As a queer creative, the piece reflects a narrative of fluidity, complexity, and pride—symbolizing how fashion can serve as both armor and celebration. The steel clip system provides a sleek, industrial finish that contrasts with the earthy, organic textures of the leather and wood, reinforcing the theme of contrast and integration. By offering versatility in styling and layering, this design invites wearers to make it their own—whether styled with a full ensemble or as a standout accent. Ultimately, this half-skirt belt becomes more than an accessory—it’s a wearable story, representing identity, transformation, and the power of fashion to reflect the many layers of self. It speaks to those who find liberation in dressing beyond the binary and celebrates the joy of creative, fluid expression.
