Vietnam

A second-year Fashion student at the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Arts – Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Passionate about punk, rock, and all things alternative in art and lifestyle. Exploring leather as a material excites me — it’s both a technical challenge and a source of creative inspiration.

This is a fashion design project rooted in the spirit of punk rock, embracing exaggerated silhouettes and an avant-garde aesthetic. Entirely crafted from leather, the collection explores sculptural forms and raw materiality. A key experimental focus lies in the application of Vietnamese traditional lacquer (sơn ta) as a surface technique on leather—particularly on corset structures—without referencing lacquer’s traditional imagery or symbolism. Instead, the project highlights the material’s intrinsic qualities: depth, gloss, and tactile contrast. Developed as part of the Cultural Identity in Fashion course, this project represents a research-based approach to exploring how new perspectives and contemporary design languages can coexist with, and be enriched by, Vietnam’s traditional craftsmanship. It offers a fresh lens on how modern fashion can respectfully engage with cultural heritage, not by replicating its symbols, but by honoring its materials and techniques in new contexts.
