Hi! My name is Moe Dune Schmidt, I am a womenswear MA Fashion student specialising in textile development. The past and present of womanhood is what inspires my collections. Through my designs I explore the resilience, rebellion and strength that femininity represents to me.

BONDED

Category: Apparel

Competitions: International

This trench coat is part of my final Masters collection titled 'BONDED'. My collection explores the ties, or rather bonds that have shaped womanhood and that have protected women for decades. My research is based on a traditional type of tattooing called ‘sicanje’ that stems from Bosnia and Croatia. These tattoos were used as a way for women to protect each other and their daughters from kidnapping during the ottoman empire. Today this tradition represents resilience. Another big part of my research are traditional Croatian hairstyles that involve a lot of intricate weaving and braiding. For my garment I will only use recycled (second hand) leather and weave it together, as sustainability is very important to me. To replicate the tattoos, I am hand poking every single tattoo onto the leather, to accurately represent such an important tradition.
