Xi 'an Academy of Fine Arts

I am Li Yinhua, a student at the School of Design and Art of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in product design. I am skilled in extracting design elements from natural objects, transforming and disassembling them, and then integrating them into my personal design; In terms of design choices, I place greater emphasis on humanistic thinking, believing that design should serve people's lives and develop from their needs. However, as an art school student, based on this practical thinking, I will not overlook the expression and expression of art in my design products. My design inspiration comes mostly from natural things, so I focus on the development of sustainable design. When choosing CMF, I tend to use sustainable materials to reduce environmental damage. In daily life, I have my own understanding and practice in the study of subcultures, and I also incorporate some of them into my personal designs. I believe that good design is not limited to showcasing beauty, but also has value in terms of existence and practicality.

The thirsty jellyfish”

Category: Accessories

Competitions: China Mainland

The design draws overall inspiration from the forms and color schemes of jellyfish, seaweed, and seashells. The jellyfish serves as the primary shape reference, merging its form with a beret to create the main hat structure. The jellyfish tentacles are combined with the concept of a wig, attached along the hat's brim to hang downward, making the design language more concrete. The patterns on the hat not only reference the markings on jellyfish but also incorporate seaweed, often washed ashore alongside them, as an additional decorative element. The seaweed also appears as a high-saturation color in the design, enhancing texture and visual appeal while adding a mysterious tone. The lighter sections take inspiration from seashell hues, using stiffer leather compared to other parts—reflecting how most seashells, regardless of species, tend toward pale colors when found on beaches. The "tentacles" feature braid-like extensions inspired by the Haeckel's jellyfish, a species commonly found in subtropical shallow waters, adding layered detail to the design. The ends of the "tentacles" align with "cotton pearls" on the hat's crown, allowing users to either wrap them upward or let them hang freely. This interactivity increases versatility in styling. Apart from the turquoise and light tones, the remaining colors reference the shifting shades of beach sand between high and low tide—dry and wet—embodying the theme of "thirst," where the vibrant turquoise suggests lingering vitality against the parched, sandy base. Notably, the product retains its sun-shading functionality.
