This project is built on the relationship between genuine leather and the Vietnamese revolving lantern as two material systems that both have the ability to preserve memory, time, and traces of use. The revolving lantern is not only a Mid-Autumn Festival toy, but also a cultural structure of movement, light and shadow, folk storytelling, and family memory; meanwhile, genuine leather is a living material in an aesthetic sense, because it changes, ages, and records the user through patina, touch marks, sheen, and softening over time. The core connection between these two elements lies in the fact that the revolving lantern tells stories through shadows, while leather tells stories through its surface. The lantern does not reveal images directly, but allows light to pass through and create moving shadows on its surface; leather, when treated through carving or surface shaping, is no longer merely a covering material, but becomes a place where light, touch, and time together inscribe a visual layer of memory. Therefore, the bag in this project is not simply a container for objects, but a “memory object” activated through use. By taking the structure of the revolving lantern as its foundation, the design reflects the principle of concealment and revelation: the true form is inside, while the shadow appears outside - beauty does not lie in the immediate and total display of form, but in gradual discovery and deeper engagement.
