Ngoc Hoang Yen Tran

Vietnam

My name is Hoang Yen, and I am currently a third-year fashion design student at Ton Duc Thang University. I am particularly interested in structured designs and enjoy telling stories through the language of fashion. To me, fashion is not only about appearance but also a way to express identity, emotions, and personal perspective. I am drawn to designs with strong structure and clear concepts, where each detail contributes to a meaningful narrative. Through my work, I aim to communicate ideas rather than simply create visually appealing garments. At the same time, I hope to contribute to changing how people perceive fashion. I believe fashion should be understood in a more thoughtful and responsible way, not just as trends but as a form of expression with cultural and personal value. I also value sustainability in fashion and try to develop a mindset of conscious dressing, where creativity goes hand in hand with responsibility. I am still on my journey of learning and improving myself, gradually shaping my own creative voice and perspective. I see this competition as an opportunity to challenge myself, step out of my comfort zone, and express my ideas more clearly, while gaining valuable experience through new challenges.

This project explores modern Southern Vietnamese architecture, focusing on distinctive elements such as sun-shading panels, double-layered walls, and ventilation blocks—structures that reflect climate-responsive design and local aesthetic identity. From these references, principles of rhythm, repetition, and permeability are translated into garment design. The transformation is developed through 3D pattern cutting, form construction, and washing techniques to create surface texture and visual depth. The collection aims to balance functionality with sculptural expression, while reinterpreting architectural identity within a contemporary fashion context.
