Hello! I'm Roscha Dinler, a 23-year-old from the city of Nuremberg, Germany. I'm a programming student with a passion for leather crafting and fashion. I especially love the art of sustainable shoemaking. For years, I've been following the fashion industry closely, learning as much as I can about its business side. Even though I haven't had the opportunity for a formal fashion education, I've been teaching myself and creating unique fashion pieces from my bedroom. I see the REAL LEATHER STAY DIFFERENT competition as a fantastic opportunity to showcase my skills and connect with like-minded people and professionals from around the world. I'm excited to be a part of it!

Fragmented Structure

Category: Footwear

Competitions: International

Fragmentation is explored through the idea of material failure and repair. Broken ceramic vessels show how structure can come from separation instead of continuity. Through repair methods like Kintsugi, cracks become both functional and visible parts of the object. This research looks at how fragmentation can be translated into footwear construction, not just as decoration, but as part of the structure itself. Leather scraps are used as a primary material, referencing waste and discarded fragments. By working with offcuts that are often considered unusable, the design reinforces the idea of revaluing what is normally seen as waste. The design process follows a similar approach. Instead of relying heavily on sketches, the form is briefly outlined and then developed directly in three dimensions through sculpting. This method is intentionally chosen to allow spontaneity and instinct to guide the process. The form is shaped on the last, with structure and pattern defined on the physical object, allowing the design to develop through making rather than drawing.

Patina over Plastic

Category: Footwear

Competitions: International

There has been a concerning trend of excessive plastic use in the footwear industry. Increasingly, plastic materials are being utilized as faux leathers or for sole construction. Notably, the rising popularity of big chunky or platform outsoles relies heavily on synthetic materials, often overshadowing the shoe's upper design. The "Patina over Plastic" project addresses this issue with a minimalistic yet playful approach. By incorporating a limited amount of foam adn rubber for stability and comfort, and covering it with leather, the project ensures that plastic is used judiciously. This method highlights the leather and the overall silhouette of the shoes, rather than allowing plastic to dominate the design.
