Maria Eduarda Oliveira Rodrigues

UNIVERSIDADE SALVADOR UNIFACS

I am a third-semester Fashion Design student and, as a native of Bahia, I find the foundation of my creative DNA at the intersection of ancestral craftsmanship and contemporary tailoring. My journey is defined by managing my own atelier, where I transform technical rigor into original garments that bridge the gap between sophistication and the cultural identity of Northeast Brazil. My academic and practical work focuses on reinterpreting traditional techniques, such as fuxico, elevating manual craftsmanship to the status of strategic design. Through textile manipulation using fabrics like silk, crepe, and leather, I strive to construct silhouettes that balance structure and fluidity. I have a particular interest in fashion engineering, dedicating myself to the meticulous study of corsetry, puff sleeve volumes, and asymmetrical cuts that challenge conventional pattern-making. I believe in a fashion industry that is simultaneously avant-garde and sustainable. Under the concept of "Sustainable Vanguard," I design collections that prioritize durability and ethical production, utilizing materials that evoke the textures of the sertão and the aesthetic richness of my homeland. To me, clothing is a visual narrative; every one-shoulder cut or handcrafted detail is designed to communicate strength and a sense of belonging. Currently, I seek to push the boundaries of my production through competitions and textile experimentation, reaffirming my commitment to bringing Bahian design to new stages. This competition represents an opportunity to validate research that merges academic learning with the maturity of operating my own production, always aiming for innovation without losing the connection to my roots.

Golden Vanguard is, therefore, a celebration of what is eternal through what is new — a collection designed for those who see fashion as an infinite cycle of beauty and structure. The choice of spirals and the wheel of life as conceptual pillars is justified by the cyclical movement of existence. In fashion, leather is a material that transcends time, and spirals symbolize this continuity: a design that expands, transforms, yet maintains its essence. The collection uses pattern making to create fluidity within the rigidity of leather, suggesting that elegance is not static, but a constant flow of renewal. Asymmetry is the heart of the avant-garde. By moving away from perfect mirroring, the cuts create a visual dynamism that refers to the movement of spirals. Instead of traditional curves, the necklines in this collection may take on angular and deep forms. They serve as visual breathing spaces amid dense colors such as Marsala and Olive Green. The structured leather allows these necklines to maintain their shape without deforming, functioning as frames for the skin and reinforcing the sophistication of the "Áurea" line.
