The Bleached Sea

Category: Accessories

Competitions: Taiwan Region

This piece aims to highlight the phenomenon of coral bleaching caused by environmental destruction, serving as a call to raise awareness of the increasingly severe ecological crisis. The bag’s silhouette is inspired by the natural form of coral, with embossed leather used to replicate the intricate texture of its surface. The all-white color palette symbolizes the death of coral after bleaching. The strap features intertwined coral and pearl elements, representing how coral bleaching not only affects the coral itself but also disrupts the marine life, such as shellfish, that coexist with it. Inside the bag, the lining fabric is printed with vibrant colors that resemble healthy coral, creating a strong visual contrast to emphasize the transformation from vivid life to lifeless whiteness. Through this work, I hope to raise awareness of marine ecology and the importance of environmental protection, encouraging reflection on the impact of human actions on nature.
