Mashasha is a plant which is found in Western province and part of North western province of Zambia due to sandy and wet geographical location. Mashasha or papyrus plant has a diverse range of uses such us furniture making, mats, and baskets. Adding to that Mashsha is also used in construction of hats and they are also used to create fish traps. Beyond these practical applications, Mashasha (papyrus plant) in water and dumbo area provide valuable ecosystem services like filtration and carbon storage. Furthermore, with these important uses of Mashasha mentioned above I have discussed this is the reason I have integrating it with leather to craft the double Monk Straps Shoes. Additionally, Mashasha is also used for Medicinal Purposes, Certain parts of the Mashasha(papyrus plant) have been used traditionally for medicinal purposes, such as treating eye diseases and ulcers. People of Western and North western provinces of Zambia are livestock farmers hence , Mashasha is also used to feed their Livestock. Some parts of Mashasha (papyrus plant) are edible both for livestock and for human, therefore, Mashasha can be used as food with it's reach in nutritional value for humans and livestock. Research is exploring the potential of papyrus wetlands as a source of biomass energy due to it's highly flammable property. To crown it all, my shoes is not just an ordinary shoes, it tells a story about the long time uses of Mashasha (Papyrus plant) in Western and North Western provinces of Zambia. Therefore, the Combination of leather with Mashasha will carry on to tell the story and to preserve the culture of the people of Western and North western provinces of Zambia.
