The Kites Embrace
Category: Accessories
Competitions: China Mainland
I am a child from Weifang who grew up in the shadow of kites. Later, I studied bag design, but in my heart, I always thought of the kites from my hometown—they fly very high, yet are difficult to truly 'take away.' So, I decided not to print kite patterns on bags, but instead, to 'create' a kite. I extracted the main structural designs of Weifang kites, used natural bamboo strips to build the internal support of the bag, and used transparent leather to imitate silk, replicating the kite's translucent texture under sunlight. When light and wind pass through, and the ribbons flutter, the bag becomes as light as a breathing kite. This collection is called 'Kites Embracing Each Other': 'Kite' represents the kite and my hometown; 'Embrace' represents my steps and the distant places. It is like the most heartfelt hug a child away from home can give to their hometown. From then on, the kites of my hometown no longer just fly in the sky—they can accompany us as we journey to farther worlds.
