Fashion Design BFA

Atelier - Pattern Cutting, Womenswear, Unisex

I am from Hsinchu, and I am 20 years old. I graduated from Hsinchu girl senior high school. And now I am studying fashion design in Shih-Chien university. The reason why I choose this major is because I like cloth, and I want to create clothes that are unique and genderless. Let people feel free and confident to wear my clothes. I am a hard-working, optimistic and positive person. I am someone who is passionate about work. Willing to work overtime to complete the work. In my free time, I like to watch movies, dramas, anime, read books, and comics. It gives me more inspiration and broadens my horizon, so I can put them into my creations. I also like old things. It gives us a chance to imagine what the old time, people and the place feel like.

Folded Box-Bag

Category: Accessories

Competitions: Taiwan Region

The common handheld paper box in Taiwan is an item that combines the art of origami, transforming a 2D plane into a 3D object. Typically disposable, these boxes could be redesigned using leather to create reusable bags. This modification would offer the convenience of portability and collapsibility for easy storage when not in use, yet can be folded back into shape when needed. The surface rubbed with sandpaper to achieve an aged look. The edges remain untrimmed, unbounded, for a raw, primitive feel. I chose to design based on traditional Taiwanese culture. First, I drew inspiration from the appearance of a common fruit box for the design. I used a khaki-colored material resembling a cardboard box for the base of the bag to create the illusion of a box. On top, I placed common red words found on boxes, with the words "公事包" written, means 'briefcase'. This contrast highlights the idea of a formal bag on an ordinary and familiar object. To make it more formal-like , I designed a tie to be used to fasten the handle , symbolizing formality. Additionally, there's a barcode at right corner of the bottom and a product tag attached to the handle, enhancing the product-like illusion. For the holder inside, I used traditional newspaper print patterns and the same fabric as the tie. Overall, I aimed to create a design that embodies both local culture and formality while playing with visual illusions and contrasts.
