Laia Bombelli
Accademia Costume & Moda
My name is Laia Bombelli, I am 22 years old, and I was born and raised in Rome. I recently completed my studies in Costume and Fashion at the Accademia Costume & Moda in Rome, where I had the opportunity to develop my creative vision and deepen my interest in fashion design and garment construction. I grew up between two cultures: my father's Italian heritage and my mother's Spanish heritage, as she is originally from Barcelona. This background has allowed me to develop an open-minded approach, a strong ability to adapt, and a genuine interest in exploring different perspectives. Being bilingual and constantly exposed to diverse traditions has shaped the way I see the world and continues to be a source of inspiration for both my personal and creative growth. I consider myself a practical and curious person who enjoys learning through hands-on experience. Throughout my studies, I have always combined theoretical research with manual experimentation, exploring different materials, processes, and techniques. I enjoy challenging myself, working with my hands, and transforming ideas into tangible outcomes, while paying close attention to detail and craftsmanship. My final collection is built around the concepts of connection and craftsmanship, two themes that closely reflect my approach to design. The central element of the project is the weaving technique, which I used not only as a decorative feature but also as a design language. Through the repetition of manual gestures and the interlacing of different elements, I sought to express the connections that exist between people, cultures, and traditions, while celebrating artisanal knowledge and the time and dedication required to create each piece. For me, fashion is a balance between creativity, research, and craftsmanship: a space where ideas can be explored, stories can be told, and personal experiences can be transformed into meaningful and tangible designs.
