Aiqiong He, is a London and Milan based fashion designer. Coming from a Chinese communist family and leaving at a young age to live in Europe has created a unique perception of her intersectional feminism, particularly concerning the meeting of gender and sexuality with race, class and identity politics. Her lived experience as an Asian woman has shown that remaining complicit in the standards set for her by society causes collision with current social and political issues. The body is her platform for expressing a distinctly female gaze. she uses it as a vehicle through which to share an obsession with the sensuality, intimacy and obscurity of female desire. Her design language seeks to translate these intangible sensations into a physical form that allows for others to express their own inner selves; the way material touches the skin, how the clothes’ shapes combine with the body’s forms, various stages of dress and undress. She seeks to create authentic items that provoke conversations about our sexual being. Each of her garments intends to reveal an unapologetic sexiness and manifest a powerful vitality we each own inherently. When developing her philosophy of erotism blended with feminism she seeks to practice it in the most sustainable means possible. Using her craftsmanship to work in a circular way and interpret pre-existing materials in new contexts is a part of my commitment to environmental sustainability and social justice as the political motivations of her work.
