Designer

Mombasa kenya

⸻ As a designer, I’m deeply inspired by heritage, texture, and storytelling. I create handmade woven bags that fuse tradition with modern fashion, always with a focus on sustainability and soul. My work is rooted in African craftsmanship — particularly Swahili coastal techniques — and I strive to honor those roots while pushing creative boundaries. Each design I create is not just an accessory, but a reflection of identity, culture, and intentional beauty.

These eco-friendly materials make each kikapu not only biodegradable and durable, but also a celebration of Swahili culture, sustainability, and timeless style. The baskets are more than just functional items—they are works of art. Depending on the design, our pieces may feature hand-sewn embroidery, beading, leather trims, pearls, or semi-precious stones, blending indigenous craftsmanship with modern luxury. Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond materials. By using zero machinery, natural processes, and locally sourced embellishments such as leather offcuts, beads, shells, and stones, we ensure minimal environmental impact at every stage of production. Our baskets are plastic-free, reusable, and built to last, reducing the need for synthetic and disposable alternatives.

Working with our partners at Arts Thread to develop lifelong learning and career opportunities for students of fashion and design. Our partnership provides the opportunity to compete on a world stage, participate in industry led workshops, set up an outstanding portfolio and gain access to the resources that will kickstart careers in fashion and design.
