Coexist with Nature, Rather Than Merely Wearing Its Disguise “Fake Beetle” is a play on the Chinese word for “beetle (甲蟲, jiǎ chóng)”, transforming it into “假蟲 (fake insect)”, and serves as a metaphor for modern societal behavior. Today, people often wear the armor of sustainability and justice — yet in everyday life, they neglect the most basic environmental actions: failing to sort waste, ignoring reusable utensils, and misunderstanding their relationship with nature. This “eco-image” becomes a hollow shell — strong on the surface, but empty within. This design, titled “Fake Beetle,” aims to challenge this distorted view of sustainability. Through exaggerated silhouettes crafted from leather, the garment mimics the hard exoskeleton of a beetle, symbolizing the artificial armor people wear to protect and project themselves. This is not an act of shaping nature — it is a response to nature. Fake Beetle invites viewers to reflect: Are we merely performing the role of being eco-conscious, or are we truly walking alongside nature? In the end, we must shed our disguises and evolve from “fake beetles” into true beetles — letting go of pretense, returning to nature, and embracing coexistence over control.
