UNBOUND ; Feminine strength in leather form
Category: Apparel
Competitions: Africa
UPDATED UNBOUND is a fashion concept that explores the strength, resilience, and identity women carry within themselves. Using leather as the dominant material, the design symbolizes protection, confidence, and power through its structured silhouette. Ankara fabric introduces cultural expression, individuality, and femininity, creating a balance between strength and grace. By combining these materials, the design challenges traditional perceptions of femininity and presents it as bold, fearless, and self-defined. Unbound is a celebration of women who embrace their power, honor their heritage, and define themselves beyond society’s expectations. In addition to celebrating feminine strength and identity, the design embraces conscious material selection and craftsmanship. By creating a timeless garment designed for longevity, the project promotes a more thoughtful approach to fashion that values quality, durability, and lasting impact. Design development This development sheet tells a very clear story of evolution from a structured, restrained concept into a bold symbol of female strength and liberation. 1. Concept Exploration The design begins with a tailored jacket-inspired look featuring: A fitted leather corset structure Ankara fabric draping around the waist Strong, formal lines At this stage, the outfit represents the expectations and restrictions often placed on women structured, controlled, and confined. 2. Silhouette & Structure The jacket is removed, exposing the corset as the focal point. The silhouette becomes more feminine and powerful. A dramatic high slit is introduced. The body is no longer hidden beneath layers. This marks the beginning of breaking away from restrictions and revealing inner strength. 3. Details & Elements The design gains stronger visual impact through: Shoulder armor Harness belt details Corset lacing Utility-inspired accessories These additions transform the outfit from elegant to warrior-like, symbolizing resilience, protection, and courage. 4. Symbolism & Flow The Ankara fabric becomes more prominent and fluid. The draped panel extends into a dramatic trail. Movement is emphasized. The contrast between structured leather and flowing Ankara becomes stronger. This stage represents freedom emerging from constraint—the balance between strength and grace. 5. Final Design – UNBOUND The final garment combines all the strongest elements: Structured leather corset representing strength and resilience. Shoulder armor symbolizing protection and power. Harness and straps representing challenges overcome. High slit expressing confidence and fearlessness. Flowing Ankara train representing freedom, heritage, and self-expression
