Slip-On Leather Clogs – Sustainable Footwear Design
Category: Footwear
Competitions: International
This project explores the fusion of sustainable materials and timeless footwear design through a pair of handcrafted slip-on leather clogs. Designed with simplicity, comfort, and durability in mind, the clogs are an everyday solution for conscious consumers who value both function and environmental responsibility. The design features a closed-toe slip-on structure made from 50% vegetable-tanned cowhide leather, offering breathability, flexibility, and a natural aging character. The footbed is ergonomically shaped from cork and coconut coir, providing lightweight cushioning, arch support, and biodegradability. For the outsole, bamboo wood or recycled rubber is used to reduce plastic dependence while ensuring strength and grip. Inspired by slow fashion values and India’s rich craft heritage, the clog design embraces minimalism, local material sourcing, and easy repairability. Every component — from jute stitching to organic lining — contributes to a sustainable lifecycle, making this product over 90% biodegradable and low-impact in both production and post-use stages. The clog’s form is versatile: appropriate for indoor and light outdoor use, it serves as a durable, breathable alternative to mass-produced footwear. Its uncoated leather finish and handcrafted texture celebrate imperfections and highlight its artisanal authenticity. This project reflects a commitment to ecological design without compromising usability or visual appeal. It redefines what sustainable footwear can be — rooted in tradition, shaped by innovation, and designed for a better future.
