progress in place

The project questions the symbolic function of the shoe as a tool for moving forward and presents a new interpretation of shoes. The shoes exceed their expected role and encourage thought about progress, usually resulting from inertia rather than active intention. The shoes inspire mental progression, introspection, and focus on the next step. I created three lasts for three pairs of shoes inspired by the shape of the toes grounded in the earth. The placement of the basalt stones makes walking difficult and provokes thoughts about the meaning of progress. Does it mean walking or standing and pondering? The design choices aimed to contrast the meticulously sculpted uppers wrapping the feet and the natural, rough look of the leather soles and their connection to the rocks. The local basalt stone represents my sense of belonging to a place, symbolizes strength and durability, and a deep connection between man and earth. Materials: Chrome Leather, Vegetable-tanned sole leather, Basalt stones. Working techniques: Traditional shoemaking, wet molding, chiseling.
