National Taiwan University of the Arts

My name is Chen Jun-wei. I am currently a sophomore at Taiwan Arts University, where I specialize in metalwork. My work often centers on the theme of “psychological transformation,” seeking to translate abstract emotions into three-dimensional objects with a sense of weight and structure. , exploring the themes of avoidance and acceptance during the process of growing up. For me, creating is not only a refinement of technical skills but also a record of observation.

From timidity to courage

Using dress shoes—a symbol of a mature society—as a medium, the work infuses courage through a transformed structure. The mecha that emerges when the shoes are put on represents the hero in a young boy’s imagination. When facing the fears of growing up, these shoes transform into empowering armor, offering a sense of protection and emotional support. They allow me to evolve from a child afraid of taking responsibility into a courageous mecha hero—a mature adult capable of facing any challenge.
