Trong bài dự thi hạng mục trang phục, tôi lựa chọn cảm hứng từ búi tóc bánh lái của phụ nữ Việt Nam – một hình ảnh dân gian mộc mạc nhưng giàu giá trị biểu tượng. Búi tóc tròn gọn, xoắn cuộn và mềm mại ấy không chỉ thể hiện sự chỉn chu, nền nã mà còn phản ánh tinh thần chịu thương chịu khó, sự uyển chuyển và bản lĩnh của người phụ nữ qua nhiều thế hệ. Chính sự kết hợp giữa chức năng và vẻ đẹp tinh tế đã khiến tôi mong muốn chuyển hóa hình ảnh này thành ngôn ngữ tạo hình trong thiết kế. Ở bộ trang phục, tôi khai thác đặc trưng xoắn, gấp, cuộn của búi tóc để hình thành các đường bo mềm, các mảng uốn lượn và nếp cuộn trên thân áo. Cấu trúc này giúp thiết kế vẫn hiện đại nhưng giữ được sự liên tưởng rõ nét đến mái tóc truyền thống. Chất liệu da được chọn như cách tái hiện sức sống mạnh mẽ nhưng dịu dàng của người phụ nữ Việt. Tôi xử lý da theo hướng mềm dẻo hơn, tạo độ rủ và độ gấp tự nhiên, nhằm mô phỏng sự uyển chuyển của mái tóc đang được búi lên. Thông qua thiết kế này, tôi mong muốn mang những giá trị bản sắc Việt Nam vào trong thời trang đương đại – không sao chép hình ảnh truyền thống, mà chuyển hóa chúng thành chất liệu sáng tạo mới. Đây là nỗ lực để gìn giữ vẻ đẹp giản dị của văn hóa Việt, đồng thời chứng minh rằng những giá trị quen thuộc vẫn có thể trở nên hiện đại, tinh tế và giàu sức biểu đạt trên sàn diễn hôm nay. In this design submission for the apparel category, I chose to take inspiration from the traditional bun known as the “banh lai” hairstyle worn by Vietnamese women. This hairstyle, simple yet deeply symbolic, represents both neatness and quiet elegance. Its rounded, coiled and soft structure reflects not only a practical way of keeping the hair tidy but also the grace, resilience and gentle strength of Vietnamese women through generations. These qualities inspired me to translate the form and spirit of the bun into the visual language of my design. In my garment, I developed shapes based on the coiling and folding characteristics of the bun. Soft curves, rounded edges and layered folds appear throughout the design, creating a sense of continuous movement that echoes the image of hair being gathered and shaped by skilled hands. The silhouette remains modern, yet the reference to the traditional hairstyle is intentionally present. Leather was selected as the central material because it carries both strength and subtle softness, much like the women who inspired this concept. I treated the leather to make it more flexible, allowing natural draping and gentle curves that resemble the fluidity of real hair. Through this design, I hope to bring Vietnamese cultural identity into a contemporary context. My intention is not to recreate traditional imagery literally, but to reinterpret it in a new and meaningful way. By transforming a familiar symbol into modern fashion, I aim to honor the quiet beauty of Vietnamese heritage and show how traditional values can continue to inspire fresh, elegant and expressive design today.
