Fu Jen Catholic University

My name is Chin-Ting Liu, a third-year student at Fu Jen Catholic University's Department of Textiles and Clothing in Taiwan. I enjoy crafting, dyeing, knitting, and making jewelry. I’m particularly fascinated by Japanese culture and traditional crafts, and I’ve been dedicated to learning the skills and expertise in these fields.

Tsumami-zaiku

Category: Accessories

Competitions: Taiwan Region

Tsumami Zaiku is a prestigious traditional Japanese craft. In this design, I have embarked on a creative exploration by integrating this heritage technique with leatherwork and botanical dyeing. While leather-based Tsumami Zaiku can be found in existing markets, the material itself is rarely subjected to further artistic processing. In this specific project, I am not only utilizing leather as the primary medium but also implementing botanical dyeing techniques to treat the leather, aiming to achieve a unique texture and a sophisticated color palette that bridges tradition and modernity. This work consists of a collection of three accessories: a hair stick (kanzashi), a brooch, and a charm.
