Rafaela Matos

Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas

Hi, my name is Rafaela and it's my first semester at the fashion design course. I've always flirted with the idea of getting out of the fog in mind by trying to reproduce it in the “real” world”. I always found fascinating the art of putting a bit of yourself in everything you do, bringing pieces of something real along the abstract encountered in art. I’m also a volunteer at my city’s social center, helping make upcycled bags.

Birds of Prey - The Harpies

Category: Apparel

Competitions: Brazil

My project leans for a path more abstract, making an analogy about circumstances or people that snatches away our dreams and hopes just like the birds of prey and the Harpies from the Greek mythology, snatches things. The apparel is born to represent an undying hope and fight left to go after the stolen dream and it back. In a world where we are judged by just wanting to be something or simply being, it is a reason for people to want to snatch that genuineness, and how we are not letting them.

Working with our partners at Arts Thread to develop lifelong learning and career opportunities for students of fashion and design. Our partnership provides the opportunity to compete on a world stage, participate in industry led workshops, set up an outstanding portfolio and gain access to the resources that will kickstart careers in fashion and design.
