Menswear, Womenswear, Embroidery

My name is tamar edlan, born in 1996, live and work in israel. Fashion graduate student at ‘Shenkar’, academy of engineering, design and art in Ramat Gan. In terms of design inspiration and motivation I am mostly interested in historical events of social importance. I’m specifically drawn to moments in time when clothing has served the wearer as a tool for protest or any kind of meaningful and unconventional expression. I use my work to examine the tension and also the harmony between masculine and feminine ideas. Through out my projects I’ve explored the world of tailoring while infusing it with a more casual street style attitude resulting in a contemporary look. My design can also be defined by it’s versatility of colors, textures and prints.

Clothing and fashion are often a tool for self-expression, colorful celebration, and extravagant and humorous attitudes. After three years of dealing with a global pandemic, troubling political events and rising fears of a recession, there is a need for escapism and maximalism to deal with our depressing reality. Throughout history, we have witnessed periods when clothing was a major vehicle for self-expression. Creating the collection, I refer to two historical fashion periods: the Incroyables/Merveilleus, in 18th century France; and the Zoot Suit era in the US, from the 1930s-50s. Both dress movements expressed resistance to both modesty and oppression. The collection is a hybrid of these two periods, displaying them in a contemporary context and expressing the power of a garment. The combination of these movements are expressed in various silhouettes, proportion and humorous attitude. The fabrics in the collection are characterized by bright colors, colorful prints and versatility. The collection combines cuts from the worlds of tailoring, evening wear and street wear. It is intended for men and women alike.
