Ring around the Rosie

Category: Apparel

Competitions: International

Inspired by the structure and symbolism of a dressage test, this collection explores the ritual of preparation for the grand show. It reveals a dual narrative: the refined tradition of equestrian style rooted in the heritage of the Tattersall horse market, and the meticulous art of dressing the mare for presentation. Rosie the First emerges as a figure of poised ambition; a muse whose elegance both captivates and compels. Classical dress evolves as taffeta rosettes bloom across puffball silhouettes, sculpted leather trophies assert status among the mares, and a heritage blanket conceals as much as it reveals. Yet as longing turns to pursuit, what becomes of the mares when the prize begins to consume them? In the end, distinction fades, and two ideals converge in the quiet struggle for perfection. A "boring" trench opens the collection, reimagined as a prelude to ceremony, while a dressed neck evokes the restrained grace of show preparation. Layers of tradition and performance intertwine, blurring the boundaries between identity and intent. It transitions into a ritual of winning awards ending with puffballs that "all fall down", where perfection gives way to exhaustion, and two ideals converge in struggle.
