Ziyu Shi

Ling Tung University

Hello! My name is Ziyu Shi, and I’m a designer from Taiwan with a love for storytelling through objects. My work often explores the intersection between everyday life and playful imagination — where functionality meets poetry. For this competition, I created Frutera, a semi-transparent countryside-inspired bag that celebrates the idea of harvest. Inside the bag are different pouches shaped and themed after fruits and vegetables: a square drawstring pouch represents oranges, a flat tomato-inspired pouch holds cards, and a curvy eggplant becomes a little top-handle bag. To add a touch of humor and surprise, I even included real vegetables like cucumbers in the display. Frutera is not just a bag — it’s a portable fruit stand, a small celebration of abundance and warmth. I believe design doesn’t always have to be serious; it can be kind, whimsical, and bring joy to people who see or use it. Being part of this international event is already a great honor, and for me, the most important thing is to enjoy the process, meet creative people, and share smiles through design. Thank you for letting me be part of this journey!

Frutera – The Harvest Bag In this semi-transparent bag lies more than just fruits and vegetables — it carries a memory of the fields. Frutera, named from fruit and terra, is a love letter to the land and its abundance. We bring together rustic aesthetics and modern sensibility, letting nature’s richness be seen, not hidden. With its open-weave design, the bag turns everyday moments into visible, living scenery. Inside, a square drawstring pouch echoes the charm of fresh oranges; a flat pouch shaped like a tomato stores cards and secrets alike; an eggplant-inspired mini top-handle bag brings elegant curves to the mix. Tucked among them are real vegetables — like a cucumber quietly resting, adding a touch of the unexpected. Frutera is a visible harvest, a handheld farmers’ market, and a tender proposal to carry sweetness, slowness, and nature with you — wherever you go.
