Kai Chin Cheng

Shih Chien University

Cheng Kai-Chin holds a Bachelor of Fashion Design from Shih Chien University and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Fashion Design at the same institution. Working across accessories and apparel, Cheng is consistently drawn to questions of structure and form — how a single design decision can redefine the logic of an entire object. Outline is a direct extension of that inquiry.

Outline is a leather accessories series built on a single structural hypothesis: what happens when the most overlooked component of a bag — the handle — is extended to its limit? In this series, the handle is released from its functional role and allowed to orbit, wrap, and coil freely, becoming the dominant visual and structural language of each piece. The bag body retreats to its most essential form, a quiet core held in place by line. The function remains, but the hierarchy is completely inverted. Drawing from a personal background in line drawing, designer Cheng Kai-Chin treats the handle as a continuous mark — one that constructs space, defines form, and carries the identity of the object. Each piece in Outline is a different unfolding of the same logic, and the series has no fixed endpoint: as long as the logic holds, the line keeps moving.
