The Pearl of Africa

Category: Accessories

Competitions: Africa

Sir Winston Churchill, in his 1908 book My African Journey, famously described Uganda as The Pearl of Africa. He wrote "For magnificence, for variety of form and colour, for the profusion of brilliant life - birds, insects, reptiles, beasts, for vast scale, Uganda is truly The Pearl of Africa" Inspired by Churchill's vivid portrayal, I aimed to create an item that embodies Uganda’s breath taking beauty and diversity. Inspired by the timeless beauty of Uganda, much of which remains unchanged since Churchill’s time, I chose to design a bag that represents Uganda with the shape of a pearl. I envisioned the pearl constructed with intertwining strands of leather, symbolizing the intricate and interconnected elements that make Uganda truly magical. The design process involved selecting both single and multi-coloured leather strands to capture the rich variety of Uganda's landscapes, wildlife, and cultural heritage. High-quality leather in metallic tones will be used for this pc, ensuring the final product reflects the elegance and resilience of Uganda. This item is a celebration of Uganda’s extraordinary natural beauty, Diversity and cultural richness, symbolised by the pearl shape and the intricate leatherwork, reflecting the essence of what makes Uganda a true gem in Africa
