FUNGWA
Category: Footwear
Competitions: Thailand
The Fungwa Collection is inspired by restraint devices and methods of bodily control used in pre-industrial societies where wooden structures were used to dictate posture and restrict human movement. This concept has been reinterpreted through footwear design transforming symbols of confinement into wearable sculptures. This piece incorporates the form of buffalo hooves and animal horns into the heel design to express power strength and physical pressure. Hand carved wood techniques are used to shape the structure creating surfaces and forms that reflect the relationship between beauty pain and the limitations of movement within the human body.
