My name is Guan Jun Chen and I’m a sophomore product design student from Shih-Chien University. Since I was still a young kid, I have had a lot of interest in handwork. Playing Lego was one of my favorite hobbies on the weekends and I would just spend the whole afternoon lying on the ground till I finished building Lego. Another hobby of mine is playing football on Sunday afternoons with my friends, who have played with me since we were in the third grade at elementary school. Football not only teaches me sportsmanship and strength but also teamwork, which affects me a lot afterwards in design . Only until I went to college and studied in the apartment of product design did I have the experience of working in the workshop and discussed my project with the professor. Therefore I have the chance to figure out many different materials step by step, which is a very interesting part of the design process. For example, one of my projects is made of bamboo, and I tried to bend the bamboo sticks with the heater in order to make a chair. Honestly, it is not as successful as I think every time trying a new material. However, through the process I can learn from mistakes , and can use the experience on the other materials. This year I have a goal of taking part in workshops and competitions not only in Taiwan but also internationally. Some people may think it is still early to do it, in spite of that, I have a totally different perspective. It is an awesome practice to integrate skills I’ve learned in class, and to examine myself how good I’ve absorbed. Consequently, I'm really excited to attend the competition.
